Postcard from Cannigione

Cannigione North-East of Sardinia

What to see: Cannigione is locaed in the north-east of Sardinia, in a piece of land embraced by the Arzachena Gulf. Its city center, made up of small and picturesque houses, overlooks the gulf. Due to its position, Cannigione is well protected from the wind that has shaped the granitic rocks of the Gallura region throughout time.

What to hear: The sound of the wind through the jettys located along the coastline of Andrea Doria, where there is one of the most strategic and well equipped arbors of the region, whose position connects it with the most renown destinations of the tourism in Costa Smeralda and its amazing bays.

What to smell: The intense aroma spreading around the countryside, whose smell is enriched by the Mediterranean brush made up of species that include jupiter, the myrtle, the juniper and the heater.

What to taste: the Gallurese Soup, one of the traditional recipes of the region. It is made with stale bread dipped into a meat broth and covered layers of local cheese, then cooked in the oven for two hours along with aromatic herbs.

What to touch: The stones of the Archaelogical complex consisting of several cultural and historical sites, such as the Nuraghe Albucciu, sitting on the back of a granitic rock; the 4-metre high Tomb of the Giants of Coddu Vecchju and, on the way to Arzachena, the Nuraghe La Prisgiona, whose dome-shaped roof represent an exceptional piece in this region.
